Well, I figured someone might want to hear about my lesson, which went very well today! Ok, so it was just flatwork, and I usually do jumping, but this was an awesome flatwork lesson! To start off, I was a little tense, so my riding instructor had me do some no stirrup work on my horse, Lacy. Now with me,I end up doing a lot of no stirrup work, because I tend to bring my legs forward to much when I ride, and I also tend to brace on the reins and stirrups.Back to the lesson...So after a little no stirrup work, I ask my teacher if I can see if I can ride with stirrups the correct way.My teacher lets me, with the warning that if my position reverts, I end up back with no stirrups.Well, things went a little differently than my teacher was probablhy expecting! Now, my horse, Lacy, is extremely forward.Basically, a lot more forward of a ride than your average horse.Well, when we trotted, my usually fast moving horse was doing practically a western jog because of how I was using my position! I was sitting back, gripping with my thighs, my legs were in the correct position, and I was loose on the reins. My teacher is a little suprised, and tells me to try cantering.I end up cantering, and guess what!? I stayed loose on the reins, and got a pretty nice canter! So finally, I end on a posting trot, and this time, Lacy ends up going so slow that she ends up walking, and I'm still posting!! My teacher told me afterward that if me and my horse could ride a under saddle class like that in show, we would probably win!!
With such a good flat lesson today, I think that when we go to our first away show together, were going to do awesome! We finally clicked over jumps, and are getting really nice rounds over the hunter course, and now our flatwork is really coming together! Also, some really cool news is that Lacy will be doing her first A rated show this summer, with my teachers sister. They will be doing the jumpers.I definitely plan on going to watch! I'm guessing that this summer, I'm going to be pretty busy with showing and all, but I'm very excited about it!
